Catalysts Facilitator

Dr Kristen Truman-Allen

Dr Kristen Truman-Allen is a Leadership Coach serving Senior Leaders and their teams. She works with health care teams, medical providers, firefighters and medics as well as police departments and business owners to increase engagement and effectiveness in their work. Kristen is a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation and teaches coaching at the Institute for Integrative Intelligence.

Kristen was an ER nurse and educator for 15 years before becoming an Outward Bound instructor, Leadership Coach and Hospital Executive. Kristen has master's degrees in both Nursing Education and Human and Organization Systems and also earned her PhD in Human Development. These experiences and focused education offer insight into her experiential program development and have influenced her focus on the human experience of staff, customers and leaders.

Kristen and her partner Dax live in Fort Collins and love to travel and spend time playing with their 5 kids (one of which is an adult kid). Kristen loves to adventure and builds snowshoeing, paddle boarding, hiking, biking etc into her coaching and her play with her family.
Executive leaders and their teams often experience being “on” 24/7. The balance of play, energy management, getting results and tending to relationships is a unique challenge for this group. That particular challenge is inspiring to me and working with Business Owners is 100% aligned with my mission to revolutionize the leadership experience to be more engaged and integrated in a whole person way.

My Facilitator Strengths

Coaching Approach - In my experiences as a coach, educator and administrator, I have realized that people don’t want to be told what to do. People expand when they are offered deep listening, curiosity and powerful questions to find meaning in the experience, as well as evoke awareness of possibilities that are all around them. I use a coaching approach that is not advising or telling, but rather inquiring for deeper wisdom and insight.

Metaphor - When we use metaphor in our conversation, we are using information from something else we know, and apply it to something new. In my facilitation, I use metaphors to help teams and individuals see their situation from a new lens and find their own unique solutions.

Experiential and Expeditionary Facilitation - Whether in corporate structural strategic design settings, in 1:1 Coaching or group
facilitation, I use experiential methodology to find meaning and find solutions. This out of the box way of exploring ideas could be physical play experiences like hiking, or fishing, or could be made up experiences in a conference room where leaders imagine the
situation, explore the experience they are having with the content and ultimately find solutions. This style helps participants embody the learning and remember the ideas they generated which leads to follow through and consistent change.

Purpose Driven - I have an ability to build quickly trust based on respect, which creates a space for others to feel safe. Safety and respect allows me to use my skill in drawing connections to topics that may seem unrelated or distracting, and bring the group back to purpose or objective. With safety and a clear purpose or desired outcome, it doesn’t matter where the conversation goes, I can bring it back to clarity.
